My Evil Cat!!!

My cat, Twilight, just over a year old, has never had an accident outside her litter box, EVER.

Then  last night, I noticed she was on top of the coffee table, scratching my purse, so I picked her up, and she peed on me! That's right, she was about to do her business right on top of my purse.  So there I stood shouting and cursing, while my husband sat on the couch giggling.

So this morning, I got out of bed and began to get dressed and happen to notice the cat on my bed, scratching at the sheets.  This seemed odd to me, so I walked over, and SHE HAD PEED ON MY BED.  Right where I friggin sleep.

She hates me.  I would say that she has officially gone out of her way to make that good and clear.  Ugh.

The Ice Man Cometh... the Ice Man Leave Presents...

Here was my other discovery when I walked downstairs this morning. You know things that make you just kinda stop in your tracks and think, "what the... huh?"

So I did a little detective work.

Plastic wine glass overflowing with ice in my kitchen sink
The lake on my kitchen floor
Based on the evidence that would found at the scene, it would seem that my husband, aka The Ice Man" had some sort of "ice accident."

It would have to be so, for I know that my hubby (aka The Trent) would never leave a mess all over the kitchen for me to clean up.

Alas, if I attempt to piece the clues together, this is what I believe must have happened.  It would appear that as he entered the kitchen the freezer door flew open.  The icebox growled and glowed a la Ghostbusters with every intention to ice Trent to death.  In a moment which was both heroic and brave, he grabbed the first weapon within his reach... a blue plastic wine glass.  The icebox balked.  The icebox drew it's courage.  The icebox spat and spewed enormous honkin chunks of ice at Trent.  With one motion Trent (aka The Ice Man) caught said ice in the mouth of the plastic vessel and released it flying through the air to the sink.  The Ice Man vanished to save himself and the icebox melted.

That's my theory anyway.

Highlighters, My Stinkin' Dogs & Martha Stewart

This morning I woke up and got ready for my day then went downstairs.  It was just like any other morning, except I found this:

That's right.  That's my couch.  And that's bright orange highlighter (I threw the chewed up highlighter away before taking the pic but it was lying right smack in the middle of the couch).

Okay, so it doesn't look too bad I figure.  So I grab some damp towels and start frantically scrubbing:

Oh LOOK! Highlighter SMEARS!  Grrrrrr...

Lemme just say this.  I own Martha Stewart's Homekeeping Handbook: The Essential Guide to Caring for Everything in Your Home.  My mother got it for me for Christmas the year that I bought my house.  I think it was a hint.  In fact, when I think of it, she got me some cookbooks when she was trying to convince me (after 6 months) to stop cooking out of an electric skillet and buy a stove.  And, now that I think about all the other books she has gotten me on landscaping, cooking, housekeeping, and interior design/home improvement... I'm pretty friggin positive it was a big hint.

I will say, this actually is a pretty nice book to own.  I have used it alot when it comes to laundry.  There's a huge section on laundry that tells what you actually can and cannot launder, how to launder unusual things like down comforters and things marked "dry clean" at home (I don't like paying for dry cleaning), and also has a nice section on removing certain stains.  Let me just say, this:  MARTHA DOESN'T SAY ANYTHING ABOUT HOW TO REMOVE HIGHLIGHTER FROM UPHOLSTERY!  What the crap?

I went to the basement and looked around. My choices for stain removal were "Goop" or "Spray n' Wash".  I grabbed the Spray N' Wash.  Seemed like it would be easier and a little less messy than the former.  Anyway, after oranging up 6 rags and a lot of scrubbing, I was left with a light orange area.  It actually worked pretty well; pretty well because we have a brown couch.  I shudder to think what it would have looked like had it been white.

I noticed afterwards that there were little orange footprints all over the wood floor and the kitchen floor.  If that wasn't enough evidence as to who the culprit was:

Mr. Dayglow Himself
Please allow me to to summarize the above with one final statement:  MARTHA DOESN'T SAY ANYTHING ABOUT HOW TO REMOVE HIGHLIGHTER FROM PUGS!  (He's gonna have this new hairdo for a while)

1 Week Old Baby Chickens!!!!

The babies are starting to grow their feathers.  It is AMAZING how quick these little things grow.  They are one week old today and soooo cute.

We ordered a set of three rare breeds from My Pet Chicken.  We always order from them because you can order as little as three regular sized chickens or as little as five miniature chickens (Bantams).  Additionally, they will sex the chickens for you, so we have never had to worry about ending up with roosters.

Basically the rare breed collection that we ordered means that we ordered three and they surprise from a list of rare breeds based on what had a good hatch the week of shipment.  So here's who we got.

This is a photo of the strangest looking little girl.  Her name is Bubbles.  And as if there were any doubt, seeing as how it looks like someone circumcised her head, she is of the Naked Neck (aka Turken) Breed.  The alternate name comes from the fact that they look like a cross between a chicken and a turkey.  Here she is:

Bubbles - She is such a sweet little girl

Bubbles - Getting her wings!
The photos have a bit of a red tinge to them because of the heat lamp right above the brooder box.  I have to hold them over the box when I take their picture because they are wiggly little things and they will wiggle right out of your hands.  I don't want one of them to fall and get hurt.

It's a little strange petting Bubbles.  She has a nice tuft of furry feathers on the top of her head but then you get to her neck and chest and it's very thin, wrinkly, and slightly transparent skin that moves as you run your finger over it.

It's anybody's guess as to what color she will end up being, but here's a picture (and an article) of an adult black naked neck chicken. Tee hee hee.

Our next little girl is Cotton Candy, courtesy of my 5-year old step-minion, Jack. We believe that she's another Buff Brahma, based on her coloring and the feathering on her feet.  We have one Buff Brahma already, named Buffy, and she's a wonderful bird.  It's a real delight to get another.  Here's a couple photos of our new little one:
I have to hold her a little snugger cause she's a real wiggler.

Her coloring is much darker than the other two, but that will change when they get older
Cotton Candy, aka "Cotton", will grow up to be a nicely feathered, stout and round bird.  They carry themselves very proudly, and their coloring is quite different as an adult.  There is a picture of one here.

And the last of the bunch is Daphne, courtesy of my other step-minion, Wyatt, who is very into Scooby Doo at the moment.  She is what we believe to be a Buckeye.  What makes that really cool is that the bird originates from this great state of Ohio, the only breed developed by a lady, and is an endangered breed.

Pretty little Daphne
You can see a picture of a bearded guy holding an adult Buckeye Chicken at the website for The American Livestock Breeds Conservancy.  I didn't know this group existed till I was searching for her breed on the net, it's a quite interesting site really.

And finally, here is a photo of the whole group of them.  Every time I come around they go running away and huddle in the corner.  They're not quite used to me yet!

Feeding Time

We have separate feeding dishes for the cat (Twilight), the little dog (Twister) and the big dog (Timber).

However, you would never know it.  This is not Twilight or Twister's dish:

It is actually Timber's dish:

Look at the little guy stretch!
