Power Outage in the 'Nati

Last night we got hit with severe thunder storms.  I was out when my husband called to let me know that the power was out.  Turns out that since the power was out, the heat lamp over the baby chicks brooder was also not working so he was holding them to keep them warm (awwww...)

The power came back on about the time that I got home and we put them back in their box.  Later that night, at precisely, oh 4 in the morning, there was a huge crash of lighting followed by sounds a frightened children crying out for dad.  The power went out again.

I thought nothing of it and just rolled back over to continue my sweet dreams when my husband came back in the room and asked what we were going to do about the baby chicks... crap.

So, in the pitch black dark mind you, I, alone, took a small battery powered candle (in 2 years we have still apparently been unable to replace the batteries in our 3 flashlights) and crept down to the dark and creepy basement ALONE to find a box and gather the baby chicks (I am not afraid of ghosts so much as huge creepy crawly spiders).

I gathered the chicks and got the heck out of the basement and made my way back up to the bedroom.  I put a towel in the box for the chicks to sit on.  Then in a moment of genious I grabbed a pack of air activated foot warmers out of my dresser drawer and placed them in the box to keep the chickies warm for the night.  Those things have been in my drawer for about 10 years now. It pays to be a packrat sometimes.

The power was back on by morning, the chicks all survived, the children were able to continue listening to their Charlie Brown Christmas Music nonstop again, I got woken up at the ugly crack of dawn, and everything was back to normal here at the plantation.
